The error is the classic:-

Hopefully this is the result of huge churn in a rapidly expanding network and the ground shifting underneath the client when quotes are requested in terms of which nodes should be replying. Does that sounds reasonable?

Are you paying for quotes? I see in the sepolia test network that one of Accounts was tagged with pay for quotes. Being 1 atto.
I really don’t think I’m paying for quotes! The machine that is getting the quotes doesn’t have an ANT wallet on it and I was getting quotes before I had earned any of the new tokens. I’ve checked the address on Sepolia I was earning into and there are no transaction on it since 13 hours ago.

How??? there is only 18 decimal places for ANT
We are actually in the “dust” universe…
unfortunately we will only ever earn all the dust of incomprehensible division.
Our betters in the real universe get the full ANTs… sorry 
That is why I’m a bit baffled. I can’t argue with what the quotes are coming out as though.

I still see the occasional failure to get a quote. There was a whole rash of them for a few hours around Wed Mar 19 10:32:53 UTC 2025 but it has been a lot better since.

Yes, too many zeros. I pointed out the reason and fix in an issue a few weeks ago but it hasn’t been fixed yet.
I found it when getting dweb to print the cost of publishing websites, which shows amounts spent correctly (for both ANT and ETH).
To get the correct amount, IIRC you should multiply those figures by 100,000,000,000,000 (or 10^14).
I guess that’s what you call a programmers fat finger!

Haha - 18 isn’t a power of 2 - 32 is - maybe the autocompletion/ai did correct an obvious mistake
(well but I guess that correction can be introduced by any dev too =D 10^-18 just looks so wrong =D )

Seems obvious to me that they added 18 zeros to the attos and forgot to trim it back to 18 digits by taking the last 18 digits and then just slapped a “0.” at the front in an attempt to make it look like a decimal.
Ask me how I know.

The issue is in the format string. It specifies 32 dp’s instead of 18.

Yes you are correct.
I tried it with a larger file that produced a 12 digit attos amount and it was still 32 decimal places.
Still odd since that should produce extra zeros after the amount. So they have turned attos into whatever 10^-32 would be called
@chriso were you aware of this error in ant file cost <filename> command. That the cost has taken the attos amount and made it in units of 10^-32 either on output only or perhaps internally as well?
